Green
Acres
Elementary School
is one of four
elementary schools in North Haven, Connecticut.
Our school provides educational experiences for children in pre-kindergarten
through grade five. Resource programs for children experiencing learning
difficulties are also available. We have full-time teachers in the areas of
physical education, library/media, art, and general music, and a half-time
instrumental music teacher. Special education teachers, speech and language
personnel, a full-time social
worker, a full-time school psychologist, and a full-time school nurse work with
classroom teachers to meet the needs of our children. We also have a reading
support teacher and a language arts consultant.
Organizationally,
Green
Acres
School
is divided into three
units: Unit A (grades K, 1 and 2); Unit B (grades 3, 4 and 5); and Unit C
(integrated day). Each is headed by a unit leader, and this organization permits
teachers, support personnel, and the principal to work collaboratively in making
decisions aimed at better learning opportunities for our children. The
integrated day program offers parents of students in kindergarten through grade
five an alternative to the contemporary program. Children from the Montowese and
Clintonville School districts
also have the option
of selecting this program at Green Acres.
Our
basic objective is to provide children with the tools needed to become
independent learners. We offer them a firm foundation in the basic areas of
reading/language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, and health
education. As children enter school and continue their elementary experience,
the immediate environment becomes part of their program. They learn to develop
positive social relationships with peers and adults.
