Celebrate and Appreciate Multiculturalism

Our goal is to create an ongoing awareness and celebration of multiculturalism in our school, our community and in our world.

A sampling of the Multicultural Activities enjoyed during the 2008-2009 school year:  
  • UNICEF
  • Taste of the World
  • Holidays: traditions and celebrations
  • Martin Luther King Jr.: classroom activities, website exploration and stories in the library
  • All-school chorus presentation of the play If You Traveled on the Underground Railroad
  • Black History Month celebrations
  • Connecticut Ballet presentation: World Dance with dancers representing Ghana, Peru, Brazil, Ireland and Haiti.
  • Eshu storytelling performance:  Eshu tells African and African American folktales that focus on problem solving, tolerance and nonviolence.

A sampling of the Multicultural Activities enjoyed during the 2007-2008 school year:

  • Art curriculum includes the study of Art History providing insight into the past and reflecting on the present

  • Library curriculum includes reading multicultural stories, display of African-American History Timeline, exploring Martin Luther King Jr. website

  • Music curriculum includes international folk songs and dances, the life and music of Duke Ellington, Underground Railroad songs and stories, Italian Opera music

  • Holidays celebration and traditions

  • Study of famous people
