Montowese Elementary School opened in 1957. We are located in North Haven, Connecticut, a suburban community outside of New Haven, Connecticut, the home of Yale University.

Our school houses approximately 380 students in a K-5 configuration. Our Kindergartners attend a full day program. Montowese School has 37 certified members and 15 non-certified full / part time staff.

The educational program at Montowese is devoted toward the development of the whole child. Our school Motto "Respect - Catch It, Cooperation - Share It, Learning - Keep It" reflects our daily commitment to children. The classroom teachers are supported in this endeavor by a cadre of full time support staff which includes three full time Special Education teachers, P.E., Art, Music, both Instrumental and Vocal, Librarian, Language Arts Consultant, Reading Teacher, Speech Pathologist, a Social Worker, School Psychologist, and Nurse.

During the school year, the students are exposed to learning outside of the academics through projects that include but not limited to, Constitution activities, Dare program for fifth grade, a Wellness Committee to help monitor and encourage healthy eating habits with snacks and parties. As a connection to wellness we have incorporated two fitness programs: a morning walking club and an aerobic exercise club. Also included are School Partnerships with urban schools, Make a Difference Day Projects, and a partnership with American War Veterans to educate students of their experiences (guest speakers, Flag Day ceremony, What It Means To Be An American town essay contest,) to name just a few.

Montowese School enjoys an active P.T.A. that fully complements the features of our school. We host more than 100 volunteers to support children in varying capacities. Our P.T.A. is most generous and proactive for student and teacher needs. The Montowese P.T.A. completes the circle of cooperation enjoyed here and we are proud of everyone's efforts on behalf of the student population.
